Iman was born in a musical family where he had the famous Nazrulgeeti exponent Shrimati Purabi Dutta as his grandmother's sister & the famous Pakhawaj exponent Pandit Rajiblochan Dey as his father's uncle.Iman has learnt from Shri Ajoy Dhar, Shrimati Sumona Dhar at a very young age.Then he went on to learn from Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty,the celebrated maestro of Patiala gharana.Iman learnt rigorously from Pandit Shantanu Bhattacharyya of the same gharana & finally from Pandit Kalyan Basu,who is a direct disciple of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan,the Mount Everest of Indian Classical Music.Iman has learnt Rabindrasangeet from Shrimati Enakshi Chattopadhyay for twelve years.Apart from his Gurus,Iman has been fortunate to be associated with Pandit Subroto Roychowdhury,the legendary sitar maestro, whom he considers as his Godfather in his professional career for a long time & considers himself lucky to have learnt many rare raga chalans from him over the years. 

Iman has always been inspired by the greatest legends like Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali khan & also Ustad Salamat Ali & Ustad Amir khan.Pandit Ravishankar,Ustad Ali Akbar Khan,Pandit Nikhil Bannerjee & Ustad Zakir Hussain has been his constant source of inward inspiration for all aspects of music.

Recently his ''MAA MEERA'' Shlok has been acknowledged by WNYR NEW YORK RADIO in the ''WORLD'S UPCOMING TOP 100 ARTISTS'' category.

A High graded artist of All India Radio & Doordarshan, Iman won the 'Sutanuti Samman' at the mere age of 22.He got a scholarship for classical music from Shri Aurobindo Ashram (Delhi).He started his professional career at the mere age of 19 when he toured Nainital & Delhi and gave solo recitals.Since then he has toured Delhi,Mumbai,Bangalore,Chennai,Pondicherry,Auroville,Chandigarh,Patiala,Vrindaban,Mathura,Dharwar & extensively over West Bengal & ofcourse Kolkata.He has been also touring abroad for several years constantly & has been giving solo recitals in Germany,UK,France,Austria,Belgium,Holland,Switzerland,Italy,Dubai etc.

He has performed in prestigious places like

Currently he has his own Academy called Omkar Music Academy which has 8 branches all over Bangalore & is home for over 150 students many of whom are performing professionally.
